The defender signs for the Dolly Blues from Barwell FC!
Lancaster City Football Club are excited to confirm the signing of Craig Stanley from Barwell FC.
Craig is a Centre Back with loads of experience and know-how which impressed the management team.
He captained Barwell and was honoured by the club and supporters winning Player of the year and Supporters player of the year last season.
Stanley began his career with Walsall. He moved around before signing for Hereford United in 2004. He played a big part in their promotion to the football league in the 2005/06 season.
He then moved to Morecambe FC in 2006 where he made 174 appearances in 5 seasons and helped them reach the football league. Stanley signed for Bristol Rovers, Aldershot Town, Eastleigh, Lincoln City and Barwell FC before moving to Giant Axe today.
The defender also has 4 caps for England C.
Manager Phil Brown was delighted to welcome Craig to the club.
“I’m very happy to have secured the services of Craig. He will be a very valuable player for us this season. He’s an excellent footballer who has a wealth of experience and to coin a phrase ‘he’s as fit as a butchers dog’! He really impressed me last year when he played against us at centre back for Barwell. He has dropped back into that position and looks really comfortable.
Craig’s performance as a centre back was consistently of a high level, something that was recognised by their players and supporters as he won both player and supporters player of the year awards. After all his years in the game, he’s as hungry as ever. The meetings I’ve had with Craig have shown to me how much of a winner he is. Primarily he will focus on playing, however, Craig will also have a coaching input, therefore, I see him performing the player/coach role. It’s another great signing for us!”
