Lancaster City are delighted to announce the capture of defender Luke Thompson from Ramsbottom United.
The 27 year old, no nonsense centre half arrives having been much sought after by Northern Premier League clubs after an excellent season.
The defenders progression has been a rapid one, a late bloomer who was plucked from amateur football to play in the North West Counties before a move to the Evo Stik and his stock has continually risen in the last 18 months following consistently strong performances. His ‘old fashioned’ defensive style has made him a popular figure amongst supporters of the clubs he’s played for.
The move sees Thompson back under the guidance of Dollies manager Mark Fell who knows exactly what to expect, “He’d head bricks if you asked him to, he’s got great physical and technical attributes for a defender and just as important a massive desire and will to win, he’ll benefit from the professionalism in our dressing room and I think he’s got the potential to step up to be a top defender”.
And the step up in level isn’t something that concerns the new signing, “I’m really looking forward to a new challenge, it’s a step up in standard that I’m ready for and the way the club has progressed since the gaffer went there shows we can be towards to sharp end of the division. It’s a great club and I was keen to get working with Felly and Lanky again and I’ve seen first hand the excellent support the club has from a great set of fans.”
Thompson will join the rest of the Lancaster City squad for preseason on 29th June.
