With the registration window now open and the Lancaster City squad back in preseason training, the squad for the 2019/20 season is now taking shape. It’s a familiar look for the Dollies with many players retained from last season and 4 new signings to date.
In the goalkeeping department Mark Thornley will be working with new arrival Sam Ashton, and also with additional trialists currently training with the squad.
Defensively the club have retained Ben Hudson, Glenn Steel, Lewis Fensome and Rob Henry who continues in a player/coach capacity. They are joined by new signing Luke Thompson and the club expects to announce additional defensive signings over the course of pre-season with several new faces in training.
The midfield looks strong with the retention of club captain Simon Wills, David Norris, last season’s top scorer Rob Wilson, Charlie Bailey, Sam Bailey and Paul Jarvis. Niall Cowpethwaite joined the rest of the lads this week for pre-season and Paul Dawson is currently in Sweden on a short term playing contract.
Finally the Dollies forward line see’s the return of Matt Blinkhorn and Brad Carlsey along with new signing Jason Walker. Again they are expected to be supplemented by additional attacking players in the coming weeks.
A range of trialists have been training with club since the start of pre-season last Saturday, many of which will play in the split friendlies next Tuesday when Mark Fell takes a side to Slyne and Graham Lancashire takes a team to Turton, both 7pm kick offs.
