The next two teams to feature in our ‘Opposition in Focus’ preview are Whitby Town and Warrington Town.
These two sides had quite a contrasting end to their seasons. Whilst Warrington Town ended their season on a high by going unbeaten in their last five games and finishing in 3rd place, Whitby Town earnt zero points out of their last five matches, losing every single one of them and found themselves in 11thplace.
One similarity between the sides is their strong defensive record from last season, with the Blues conceding 41 goals during the campaign, and Warrington conceding even fewer with a figure of 33 goals conceded.
There is a gulf in class however, when it comes to scoring goals. Whilst Whitby managed to score a total of 48 goals, the Wire managed to rack up an impressive total of 69 confirmed goals.
Whitby will be happy with the progress they made from the 2017/18 season, after finishing 10 places higher in their latest campaign. For Warrington, they had a similar amount of success during their latest push for promotion, finishing in the exact same position as they did in 2018.
Warrington have made additions to their squad this summer. Recently, they added left-back Louis Barnes to their ranks, along with midfielder Scott Sephtonand former Gainsborough midfielder Alex Byrne. More importantly, Warrington have tied down a number of players from last season with new contracts, in order to keep that positive winning mentality.
However, Whitby are yet to make a single signing this summer but have not lost any of their current squad. We shall see if their lack of window activity causes them problems this season.
The Dolly Blues face off against Whitby on October 5th at the Giant Axe Stadium at 3pm and Warrington on October 8th at Cantaliver Park at 7:45pm.
