Opposition in Focus
Hyde United & Nantwich Town

Next up on our ‘Opposition in Focus’ feature is Hyde United and Nantwich Town.

Hyde safely retained their spot in the Evo-Stik Premier League for the 2019/20 season. They finished 10th last campaign and will be happy with how their first season in the Northern Premier League went. Nantwich had a fantastic season, finishing in 4th place.

Darren Kelly led United to a 3rd place finish in the 2017/18 season and got them promoted. So, the club will be more than happy with their side finishing in the top 10.

Nantwich managed to rack up 69 points, making them the best of the rest, with the top three being miles ahead in terms of points. They won 19 games and lost just nine.

This season Darren Kelly’s United side will be looking to push on even further and maintain their positive momentum. Hyde gained 53 points in 40 games last season, winning 15 and losing 17 of their league fixtures.

In the last campaign Hyde finished with a goal difference of +5, compared to Lancaster’s -19, which is impressive considering this their first time in the division since the 2015/16 season.

Nantwich have made some positive signings this summer, with the arrival of a familiar face in centre-back Ben Harrison. They have also brought in former Southport defender Josh Langley, who has impressed in a couple of pre-season games for the Dabbers. Other defensive additions include goalkeeper Greg Hall and full-back Matty Devine. So it is fair to say that Nantwich have massively bolstered their defence this summer.

In terms of signings for Hyde, the Tigers have added Leeds United academy graduate Jacko Hardacre after impressing in trials, along with pacey winger Jamal Crawford from Chester FC. They have also added forward Harry Benns to the first team, who has featured in some pre-season friendlies. The club have also signed Thierry Lewis as cover for current ‘keeper James Hodges.

The Dolly Blues are up against Hyde on Tuesday 24th September at the Giant Axe at 7:45pm and face off against Nantwich Town on September 28th at the Weaver Stadium at 3pm.
