The Dollies kicked off their 2019/20 FA Cup campaign with a stale 0-0 draw against Northwich Victoria at Giant Axe.
Lancaster were playing this match off the back of another 0-0 draw against FC United of Manchester in the league. The visitors Northwich however were coming off the back of a more impressive result, a 8-0 thrashing of Litherland Remyca in the North West Counties League.
There were some familiar faces returning to Giant Axe with Northwich. Tom Kilifin, Ryan Winder and Rob Henry all played against their former team at the weekend.
The first half was a quiet but even affair, with both teams restricting each other to only a handful of chances.
There was an early shout for a Northwich penalty after Jamie Reed was bundled over in the City box, but the referee waved it away.
The Dollies then had two good chances in the opening ten minutes with Northwich goalkeeper Taberner making some good saves.
Then it was the turn of former Dollies Kilifin and Winder to open the scoring for Northwich. Kilifin had a shot drive just wide of the post, whereas Winder made a great run through the middle of the park ending in his shot being saved by Ashton.
The rest of the first half saw both teams try and keep possession to create attacking chances but both teams made it tough for each other.
The second half was much livelier than the first. Both teams turned up the pressure and looked to open the scoring on multiple occasions.
The majority of chances for the Blues came from dangerous crosses into the Northwich box, but none found the back of the net.
The match ended with both teams having dangerous free kicks on the edge of the box, but neither team could make the most of it and find a winning goal.
The match ended 0-0. The replay will be played at Northwich’s Wincham Park on Wednesday the 11th of September with a 7:45pm kick off.
