City are back at the Giant Axe this weekend as we prepare for the arrival of playoff chasers Stalybridge Celtic. The Dolly Blues will be looking to add three points to the board after last week’s 1-1 draw with Buxton, whilst Celtic will be aiming for a fifth consecutive league victory.
Stalybridge enter this fixture in fine form having won their last four league matches, their most recent victory coming against Whitby where they won 2-1 at home.
In their winning run they also defeated the likes of Buxton, Matlock Town and Bamber Bridge, propelling them up to fifth in the table and one point ahead of Witton Albion in the playoff chase.
Their last league defeat came in early November when they lost 1-0 to Radcliffe Borough.
Stalybridge’s last three results:
Stalybridge 2-1 Whitby – 07/12/19 (League)
Stalybridge 2-0 – Buxton – 23/11/19 (League)
Matlock 0-1 – Stalybridge – 16/11/19 (League)
City will be hoping to gain all three points for the first time since mid-November when we beat Scarborough 1-0 away from home.
Our last victory came against Radcliffe Borough in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy, with the Dollies heroically fending off Radcliffe Borough with 10 men, winning 2-1.
The lads followed that win up with a 1-1 draw away to Buxton FC. City were then knocked out of the Integro League Cup by Hyde United, with the Dollies losing 5-4 on penalties.
City’s last three results:
Hyde 0-0 City (5-4 on pens) – 10/12/19 (Integro League Cup)
Buxton 1-1 City – 07/12/19 (League)
City 2-1 Radcliffe Borough – 04/12/19 (Lancashire Challenge Trophy)
City will be looking for nothing more than three points this weekend, but Stalybridge will be a difficult obstacle for Graham Lancashire’s men. The game kicks off at 3pm at the Giant Axe on Saturday December 14.
